Simon Bailes Peugeot helps make Northallerton’s bonfire celebrations most successful ever
Firefighters at North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have hailed this year’s bonfire night celebrations in Northallerton as the most successful ever, thanks to the sponsorship of Simon Bailes Peugeot, with over 7,000 people attending.
Northallerton Fire Station teamed up with the local car dealership for the second year running to stage this year’s Guy Fawkes celebrations, which took place at the Applegarth and included a huge fireworks display, fairground attractions and a bouncy castle.
Over 5,000 people were expected to attend the event, now in its 42nd year, but over 7,000 came along on the night and helped to raise over £3,700 for next year’s community celebrations.
Northallerton Fire Service also say that, thanks to the well-organised fireworks celebrations in the town, there were no reported firework-related injuries in the area. North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service continually work to raise awareness about the dangers of fireworks by engaging with the local community, visiting schools in the area and always urging people to attend organised events where fireworks are handled by professionals. Each year, since the Northallerton bonfire night celebrations were launched, the North Yorkshire fire service area has seen a continued reduction in firework-related injuries.
Firefighters at Northallerton Fire Station use the Guy Fawkes celebrations in the town to raise awareness about fire safety and the importance of attending organised displays. Thanks to the Northallerton event, the area has seen a continued reduction in call outs and accidents in the last few years.
Simon Bailes Peugeot, one of Northallerton’s most prominent businesses, is an active supporter of many community organisations and events, including Romanby Golf Club Juniors, Northallerton Carnival and Hyper Holidays at Hambleton Leisure Centre.
Managing director, Simon Bailes, said: “This event is the biggest community safety event in Northallerton and, as well as being hugely popular, it also vital to help prevent accidents on Bonfire Night. This year more people than ever came along which we were thrilled about but, more importantly, the fire service has confirmed that this year was the safest and most successful Guy Fawkes night on record as more people now follow the advice to attend the organised celebrations rather than try to host their own.”
Deputy Chief Fire Officer for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Chris Anderson, added: “Thanks to the support of local sponsors, such as Simon Bailes Peugeot, and the support of the fantastic Northallerton community, we have seen a continual reduction in call outs on Bonfire Night. This year was no exception with no firework-related injuries reported in Northallerton. This is testament to the hard work and support from everyone involved who made the event, safer, bigger and better than ever.”
